Little Luci had one of those emotional days where she simply didn’t want to be alone. From the moment she woke up, her tiny hands wrapped tightly around my shirt as if she already knew I would need to leave for a while. Every time I tried to stand up or walk away, she quickly climbed back onto my shoulder, making soft little cries that sounded almost like “please stay.” It was impossible not to melt watching her react with so much love and trust.
As a baby monkey, Luci depends deeply on comfort, warmth, and connection. Since losing the safety of her natural mother, she has formed a strong bond with the people caring for her every day. That bond becomes especially visible during quiet moments like this. She follows every movement closely, watches every step, and becomes nervous whenever distance appears between us. Even walking a few feet away made her eyes grow wide with worry.
Today she was extra clingy. While I prepared her milk, Luci stayed pressed against my chest the entire time. The second I gently placed her on the blanket, she reached both arms up again, asking to be picked back up immediately. Her tiny fingers held on so tightly that it felt like she never wanted to let go. Even after drinking milk and feeling sleepy, she still refused to rest unless she was close beside me.
The sweetest part came later in the afternoon. I tried sitting outside for a moment, thinking Luci might play with her toys. Instead, she slowly waddled after me with sleepy eyes, climbed into my lap, and curled herself into the safest little ball. She looked up quietly as if checking to make sure I was still there. That tiny expression carried so much emotion without needing any words at all.
Caring for a rescued baby monkey is not only about food and medicine. It is also about patience, comfort, and helping them feel safe again after fear and loss. Luci’s attachment may seem small to some people, but moments like these show how deeply animals can love and trust the humans protecting them.
By evening, Luci finally relaxed enough to sleep peacefully in my arms. Her breathing became calm, her tiny grip loosened, and her little face looked completely safe and content. Even though she wouldn’t let me leave all day, I honestly didn’t mind at all. Sometimes the smallest creatures remind us how powerful love, trust, and companionship can truly be.
