Baby Monkey Cici has reached a new level of independence lately. She knows exactly what she wants… and what she definitely does not want. Today’s lesson? Cleaning time.
It started like any other morning. Cici was playing happily with her toys, moving from one little pile to another, babbling softly as she went. She had her mind on one thing: fun. Nothing else mattered. Not the floor, not the scattered crumbs, and certainly not cleaning.
When I gently approached with a soft cloth in hand, her eyes immediately narrowed. She paused mid-play, staring at me like she was evaluating the situation. Then came the tiny, unmistakable “no” — a soft whine mixed with a little shake of her head. She backed away slightly, as if to say, “I see what you’re trying to do… but not today!”
I smiled. Baby Monkey Cici may be tiny, but she’s determined. I tried showing her the cloth, gently explaining, “Let’s clean together, Cici.” She blinked at me, tilted her head, then made another clear little protest sound. Her arms crossed, her legs stiffened, and she crawled just a little further away from the cleaning zone.
It was adorable.
Still, she didn’t completely run off. That’s the tricky part. Cici is stubborn, but she’s also curious. She sat at a safe distance, watching the process intently while keeping one hand slightly raised, ready to intervene if the cleaning came too close. She knows what she wants, but she also knows how to make her boundaries clear.
After a few more attempts to encourage her, she finally allowed a tiny touch. A soft pat on the cloth, just enough to feel included but not enough to actually help. Then, the instant I tried to guide her hand a bit more, she pulled back immediately, clearly saying, “Nope! That’s enough!”
By the end of the session, the floor was clean… but Baby Monkey Cici made sure everyone knew she was only cooperating on her terms. She strutted away afterward, chest puffed just a little, proud and confident.
Cleaning may not be her favorite activity yet, but she’s learning her own mind. Baby Monkey Cici knows what she wants now… and she’s not afraid to say no when it doesn’t match. 😅🐒💛
